Frequently asked questions

General

What sort of career path is available in Customer Service?
Associates at the Capital Group are not bound by pre-determined career paths. Rather, based on your skills, as well as the business need, you’ll work closely with your managers to identify opportunities to broaden your experience and direct your career in areas of interest. Many associates from Customer Service have moved into management positions within the service organization while others have pursued opportunities in sales, marketing, accounting, human resources, administration and information technology.
What makes a successful candidate for this type of position?
Common characteristics of successful Customer Service associates include strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as leadership ability, initiative and flexibility. We also seek individuals with a strong service orientation.
I’m not a finance/business major. Does this matter?
We don’t require candidates to have a particular major for a role within our Customer Service groups. We have a comprehensive training program that equips new associates with the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful.
Is my GPA important in your hiring decision?
We’ll consider your GPA when making hiring decisions, but we’re also looking for well-rounded students involved in a diverse group of activities on and off campus. We believe in a holistic approach to hiring and don’t overweight the importance of only one aspect of your experience.
What’s the salary range for entry-level positions?
We take into consideration the skills and experience a candidate brings to the position when determining a competitive salary.
Would I be able to transfer to different offices if I become a Capital Group associate?
Generally, associates are eligible to request a transfer to an appropriate position in a different location after one year in a particular role.

Training

Do you provide support for ongoing education?
We believe that the growth and development of our associates not only strengthen them personally, but also adds tremendous value to our business. We’ll reimburse full-time and part-time associates for eligible expenses for approved educational programs that include pursuing an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or a job-appropriate certificate program.

Recruiting process

How will I know if my profile has been received?
Once you have successfully completed your profile and uploaded your resumé, an email confirmation will be sent to the email address on file to confirm receipt.
What happens after I submit my resumé?
Once you submit your resumé online, it’s sent directly to a member of our Recruiting team for review.
Will you contact me after I’ve submitted my resumé?
Every candidate who has successfully submitted their profile will receive an email confirmation. If your background and skills match a position, the Recruiting team will contact you directly either by phone or email.
What does it mean if I don’t hear from the Capital Group?
It may mean that we don’t currently have a position that matches your background and skills. We’ll keep your resumé on file for future opportunities.
How will I know that a job is filled?
Once a position has been filled, it’ll be removed from our website.
How long does the recruiting process take?
We give every candidate the opportunity to meet with our HR group, hiring manager and potential peers. The length of time a candidate is in the process can vary based on the number of people involved.
How long will the interview take?
A phone or on-campus interview is typically 30 minutes long, while an in-person interview can last anywhere from 45 minutes to one hour.
What’s the interview process like?
Through our campus recruiting efforts, students can expect an on-campus interview with an HR representative or a business manager. After the on-campus interview, selected students will have either a phone or on-site interview. The on-site interview will consist of several meetings with Human Resources associates, hiring managers and/or business managers.
When can I expect to hear from my recruiter?
After each interview, we share information with the key decision makers for the role, and it may take us a few days to do that. We’ll typically make a decision and contact you, regardless of the outcome, within five to 10 business days.
What’s your assessment process?
As part of the assessment process, we look for individuals who embody our core values. Education and/or experience also are assessed. After all the interviews are concluded, all members of the interview team discuss the candidates and determine the best person for the role.
Do you sponsor work visas?
Generally, we do not sponsor visas for candidates for our entry-level positions.
